Its been TOO LONGG !!
Hello everyone !! My sincere apologies are going out to all of you who check my blog for updates! Alot of things have happened since the last post. My summer ended with smallies and big flat heads as shown in previous posts.
I am currently living up in Massachusettes to further my progress in reaching college level ice hockey ! I am playing for the Walpole Express Jr.A team of the AJHL (Atlantic Jounior Hockey League). I am also living with a wonderful host family who are extremly nice and caring.
As for fishing, I am not doing any fishing up here. Ive been kicking my self in the ass for it because I am surrounded by stocked trout ponds and bass ponds (not stocked). Although I have brought all of my fly tieing stuff up with me and have been tieing my ass off!
With Christmas around the corner, I will be heading home to PA ! I am soo stoked for this, for I am getting a new Scott A4 9 ft 4 wt fly rod !!! I wil also be doing some winter fly fishing (ive been told it is only when the mentally handicapped fish) ;) haha ! With that said I will be putting up lots of pictures of my new flies that work in the winter and the fish hat I catch!
I will also be putting up lots of photos of the lies i have tied and my fly boxes !
follow me on instagram to see more fly fishing pictures! @mooser0893
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday !!
keep realin 'em in everyone !!

Hello Everyone !
hey guys and gals , its been awhile since my last post on small mouth. I have been real busy fishing, fishing, and fishing, but what else is new oh and working :/ . My target fish has been small mouth, they are such an awesome fish to catch on the fly rod that it really takes my mind off of trout, which i have not seen a trout in ages ! WIth said trout not bein seen or caught by me, I suggest any PA fly fishers to be very careful in catching trout with water temps rising into THE UPPER 70'S !!! That is rediculous !! If your going to fly fish for trout PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go at an appropriate time of day, trout are friend not foe ! Catching trout in very warm water can really harm them and possibly kill. With all that said why not pick up your favorite 5,6, or even 7 or 8 weight and hit the rivers for some small mouth and maybe if ur lucky you will have a tiger musky following your streamer !
The zuddler is my only go to small mouth pattern Best in sizes 4,6,and 8 olive or white

Smashing Schukyll Smallies !
Took a trip this afternoon with my good workin buddy randy and his dad to fish the upper part of the "schuk" for bronze backs ! Well it tuned out to be an awesome afternoon for smallies! Randy, his dad, and I did well. Randy ended up catchin the biggest smallie of te afternoon which pushed the 18 inch mark and ended up snapping a nice one off down stream from his first giant. I ended up catching the second biggest which was a 15 inch smally. They were spin fishing but I had brought the fly rod which is the only way to fish in my eyes and had success on a white zuddler size 4 and a brown red leech pattern size 4 as well.

Been fishing a lot lately mainly for big flatheads our average size is the 15 pound range biggest do far is a 33 pounder that my friend Sean caught but I am right behind him with the second biggest flathead a 32 pounder. I have been fly fishing recently on the manny and have been doing okay, mainly in the late afternoons, but have had some success on a copper John caddis emerger dropper pattern which has been producing fish with a rotation of a polish pt nymph as well. Hope all are fishing well and best of luck to everyone!
Pictures coming soon!! :)

I have over did it on the tully and need a long break from it reports re sulphurs are coming off in the evenings and tricos are starting to appear if the reports are true productivity in the fish department there should be good. I only caught one wild yesterday on a size 12 green hot spot pheasant tail. A good crane fly pattern is needed for Hay they are coming off like mad.

Fishing the past Couple of Days
Well I have been fly fishing lately and have to say that switching from the Tully to Hay creek was a good move. I have had great sucess with catching loads of wild browns on all sorts of nymphs.
Toonight my buddy Frankie asked me if i wanted to go cat fish fishing so i said sure why not I like to switch it up and go for some big flat heads. It was a great time i caught a 35 lb flat head using a live sunny. It fought me tooth and nail and finally i landed it !

Hello Everyone !
Its been a while since I last posted but did do some fishing since last post.
Stream Report
Tulpehocken Creek - 5/2/12
Dreary day best bet was nymphing did very well on a sulhur nymph with a small caddis larva dropper and midges
Manatawny Creek - 4/28/12
The fish and boat commission did not stock very well, but atleast it is something caught one trout at the winery on a sulphur nymph then I headed over to spotts mill and manage to catch a very small wild brown trout on a sulphur nymph, about 5 to 6 inches in length it was a beautiful fish.
Watch for sulphurs in the next couple of days or weeks, they have been coming over here and there but once the days start to warm up the afternoons will be prime time for sulfurs.

Today's Fishing Excursion
4/17/12
Well today...with no english class I decided to fish iron stone creek which is a clonfluence too the Manatawny. I have fished it before and had no luck. I was told by a friend that there are trout in it. I still have yet to catch a trout there im becoming very convinced that there are not any in it! How ever I did stumble upon a snake basking its self in the sun on a rock. The only fish i caught were a cople of chubs and one blue gill which by the way was beautifull in color but did not take a picture of him.
He was not as big as he appears in the picture, I did not want to get too close so I just zoomed in from a safe distance...what a fine specimen he or she is I would say!

Manny Stream Report
4/16/12
Well...I fished the Manny today and lets just say it was very sloww and hot ! It is very weired with the weather we are getting, today felt like early june ! Caught one rainbow today on the lower section of Spotts Mill on a size 14 Red Fox Squirrel Nymph. Forgot my camera in the car so no picture it saddened me very much. The temperatures are supposed to be cooling down in the next up coming days, so im hoping for some better hatches which will equal better fishing !
Good Luck to All !

Ready the Troops !
The caddis emergers (size-16) are ready to due battle with the trout of the Tulpehocken tomorrow!
BRING ON THE FISH!
TIE SOME OF THESE UP IF THERE ARE CADDIS HATCHES WHERE YOU FISH.....YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED !
This is my own pattern you will not find this anywhere else maybe something like it but not this exact kind....IT REALLY WORKS...I have yet to have a trout refuse it when there is a caddis hatch if it doesnt work try a different size trust me you cannot go wrong with this fly !
*Warning: Sudden stoppages of the heart may occur due to trout smashing this fly*
Recipe:
Hook: Size 12-18 (Or if you are feeling real daring try 20-24) standard dry fly hook or straight eye 3x long nymph or dry fly hook and even a scud hook will work because remember it is an emerger it does not have to ride high on the water!
Thread: Dark Brown, Olive, Tan, or Light Brown - Depends on body color of fly
Tail: Med. Brown or Drk. Brown Antron Yarn
Body:Drk. Brown, Light Brown, Tan, Olive - the list goes on
Wings: CDC- Color to Match the Deer or Elk Hair you use that is on top of CDC (Personally I like to use Western Mule Deer, Gives Wings the spotty look that most caddis have.)
Head: Same color dubbing as body

Stream Report - Manny
Manatawny - 2/13/12
Today I took another trip over to Spotts Mill. Caddis are coming off very consistently at certain times, peak time is from 10-4. Caught two browns on my size 16 caddis emerger in brown tan will work as well but, stay away from size 12's you might get lucky and catch a few but stay in the size range of 14-18, most consisten takes on these sizes !
Beautifull white tipped fins on both fish !

French Creek Today
Today was just one of those days, class was boring from 8-10 at MONTCO. After class was done I drove to French to meet up with my good pal Frankie. Once there I realized that i forgot my camera which made me very "happy". Although we caught some nice trout as soon as we got there, then the catching came very sparatic then it went to , "sorry, not biting today fellas !" We have no idea why the trout just suddenly were not biting, maybe it was becuse it was over cast and the sun was shining in spurts but we could see them feeding on the bottom and rising to emergers but could not get them to bite anything! Some poor hook sets caused us too loose some nice fish but all in all it was pretty frustrating but still a good time!
Patterns that caught fish: Red Sparkle Midge size 20, Copper John size 20, Black and Grey RS 2 size 18, and Chocolate Midge size 18

Stream Report
Stream: French Creek
Me and my buddy Frankie went out to French this morning, trout are holding well in fast, moderate, and slow runs, riffles as well. We need some rain or the trout will not survive very long once the hotter months start to roll around. Trout are taking small olive, brown, and tan midges very consistently size 20 - 24. They are also looking up for grannom, brown, and tan caddis, sizes 12-16 will work. Also a small caddis larva, dark olive, will produce fish as well. Also, as usual small BWO nymps size 16-20 and any other small olive nymphs, in the same size range will work also.

Late Nights, Thoughts, and Flies...
Just sitting in my room tieing flies and thinking about how wonderful it is to be a fly fisherman. So I came up with this little poem.
All you do and all you see,
it simply cannot be beat.
The people you meet and the places you go.
It came to me what a simple fly can do for the soul.
Haha... it is truly amazing what fly fishing has done for me :)

A Free Feather !
I found this beauty at the covered bridge in Pleasantville ! I always seem to find these types of feathers there. I have no idea why ?
Where are the Fish ?
Ohh wait... here they are ! After being woken up at 9 am and realizing that I did not get to go to French creek I was pretty upset ! Although, this was not a bad thing, after trying multiple places with no luck my time was winding down, and with an hour left of my fishing time I decided to shoot over to Spotts Mill and to my suprise I found the trout ! They were smacking the surface for caddis ! I caught all of these fish on a size 14 brown caddis emerger . Sorry for the rocks and leaves in my net, but they are still some good pics !
